Cafe Organico Marcala

In La Paz, Honduras, the year 2000 marked the beginning of a transformative journey for 62 Honduran coffee farmers. United by a common vision to convert their farms from conventional to organic production, they formed Café Orgánico Marcala, S.A. (COMSA).

With support from a foundation called Funder, COMSA achieved organic certification from Bio Latina in 2001. This milestone opened doors to international markets, allowing them to secure better prices for their coffee.

In February 2006, COMSA earned Fair Trade certification, further enhancing their commitment to ethical practices. The Fair Trade premium has been instrumental in funding numerous social projects, including paying teachers' salaries and purchasing school supplies, thus enriching the community and fostering sustainable development.

Surrounded by a cloud forest full of exotic wildlife. The well-defined seasons in this region contribute to the high quality of specialty coffees. The rainy season results in beautiful cherries, and the clear, dry season allows the producers to sun-dry their coffee once it is washed. The high altitude, richness of the clay, soil, and warmth of the sun ensure that the integrity and quality of the beans are preserved from beginning to end.

Harvesting & Processing

Honduras COMSA is a fully washed bean, which is typically known to produce clean, bright, and consistent flavors in the coffee.
