What is a Peaberry?
Peaberry refers to the shape of the coffee bean, and how it develops in the cherry. Normally, coffee cherries contain two flat-sided beans, but in about 5-10% of cases, a single round-shaped bean forms within the cherry, creating a peaberry.
Peaberry beans are often considered unique because they receive all the nutrients from the cherry that would typically be shared between two beans, resulting in a different flavor profile. Some coffee enthusiasts believe that peaberry coffee has a more concentrated and intense flavor compared to regular coffee beans from the same coffee plant. Though peaberry coffee is considered special and often commands a higher price, taste and preference are subjective, and some people might not find a significant difference in flavor compared to regular coffee beans.
